ALCO road diesels

RS2/RS3#210 (1st): had two Nathan M-3’s (horn F) mounted on the centerline of the hood close to the cab on both ends. #210 (2nd): as of 6-64 had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G) mounted over cab on a bracket which was mounted high on the cab front wall. The long horn or #1 bell faced backward over cab roof. #211 (1st ): had the same horns as #210 (1st) and were mounted the same. #21 l (2nd ): had a Leslie S-3 (horn E) mounted on a bracket the same as on #210 (2nd). #212 (1st): thru #214 (1st): also had two Nathan M-3’s (horn F) mounted the same way as on the #210 (1st). #215 and #216: had one Nathan M-3 (horn F) mounted on centerline of long hood close to the cab and a Wabco E-2 (horn L) mounted on the rear hood, engineer’s side, close to cab next to the boiler stack. #217: In 1960 it had a Nathan M-3 (horn F) mounted on the long hood centerline in front of cab. In 1970 a photo of #217 shows a Leslie S-2 (horn D*) mounted the same place. #218: as of 10-66, it had a Nathan M-3 (horn F) mounted on the long hood the same as on #217.  A photo dated 3-66 shows a Wabco E-2 (horn L) mounted on the centerline on the short hood about 3/4 away from cab towards rear. #219: had a Leslie S-3 (horn E) mounted on the long hood centerline in front of the cab.

RS11#400: had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G) mounted on the centerline of the cab towards the front. Photos dated 2-60, 11-65, 10-66, 5-68 and 8-74. #401: had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G) on photos dated 3-65 and 10-66. Photos dated 4-73 and 1-76 show a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J). #402: had a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H). #403: as of 11-71 had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G), and in another undated photo it shows a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J).

ex-PRR RS-11all came with Leslie S-3’s (horn E). #7642: had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G) #7643: a photo dated 8-71 shows a Nathan M-3 (horn F).

C420: #404: in a photo dated 10-74 it had a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J), than a photo dated 2-75 shows a Leslie S-3 (horn E). #405: in a photo dated 5-72, it shows a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J). #406: a photo dated 12-74 shows a Nathan P-3 R1,4 (horn K*) and a photo dated 4-75 shows a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J). #407: photo dated 1-66 shows a Nathan P-2 (horn J*). A photo dated 5-68 shows a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J). #408: photo dated 8-68 shows a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J) on it, then in 7-74 photo shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #409: photo dated 4-75 shows a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J). #410: photo dated 4-66 shows a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H). Another photo dated 10-73 shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). Then in photos dated 12-74 and 3-76 it had a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J). #411: photo dated 8-68 shows a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J).  A photo dated 3-75 shows a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H). #412: a photo dated 3-67 shows a Nathan P-2 (horn J*). A photo dated 12-72 shows Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #413: had a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J) in photos dated 5-63 and 8-68. Then in a photo dated 8-74, it shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #414: a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J) shows in two photos dated 5-63 and 5-67. #415: In a photo dated 3-66 it had a Nathan P-2 Rl (horn J). A photo dated 10-74 shows a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H) and a photo dated 4-75 shows it had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G)

FA-1#530 thru #548: all units came with two Wabco E-2’s (horn L) mounted on the cab roof: one pointed forward on the engineer’s side, and the other horn pointed to the rear on the firemen’s side. #532: a photo dated 8-63 shows a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H) mounted over the engineer’s side. #534: had a Nathan N-3 (horn M) mounted in the same location as the #532. #536 and #538: had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G) on them. #530, #540 and #544: had the original Wabco E-2’s (horn L) until they were sold for scrap. #542: a photo dated 6-58 shows a Nathan N-3 (horn M) mounted in the same location as #534. #546: a photo dated 6-67 shows a Nathan M-3 (horn F) on it.

FA-2: #580 thru #594: had the air horns mounted on the centerline of the cab roof. #580: A photo dated 9-60 shows a Nathan M-3 (horn F), then a photo dated 7-65 shows a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H). #582: when delivered had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G) on it, then after rebuilding a photo dated 5-61 shows a Nathan M-2 R2 (horn I) on it. Then a photo dated 10-64 shows it had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #584: A photo dated 10-64 shows a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H). Then a photo dated 2-65 shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #586: A photo dated 9-64 shows a Nathan M-3 (horn F). #588: When delivered had a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). Then in a photo dated 6-64, it shows a Leslie S-2 (horn D*) on the cab roof. #590, #592 and #594:  All had Nathan M-3’s (horn F).

PA: #601 thru #614: Were delivered with a Wabco E-2 (horn L) mounted on the cab roof centerline, one horn per unit.  In the early 1950’s all units received Nathan M3-Rl’s (horn G). #606 and #608: Had Nathan M3-R2, 4’s (horn H).

C-628: All the units had the horns mounted centerline of the cab roof about 10-12″ from the front of the cab roof. #625, #628 thru #635, #637, #638 and #641: all had Nathan P-2 Rls (horn J). #625: a photo dated 2-73 shows a Leslie S-3 (horn E). #626: photos dated 5-71, 7-73 and 3-74 show a Nathan P-2 (horn J*). All horns forward with the #2 horn bell mounted in the center of the manifold with the #1 horn bell mounted to the left of center facing forward. #627: a photo dated 4-73 shows a Leslie S-3 (horn E), and a photo dated 10-74 shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #630: a photo dated 5-76 shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #634: a photo dated 11-74 shows a Leslie S-3 (horn E). #635: two photos dated 4-73 and 3-75 show a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G). #637: two photos dated 11-74 and 10-75 show a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G), and a Leslie S-3 (horn E). #638: photo dated 10-74 shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G), #639: had a Nathan M-3 (horn F). #640: a photo dated 8-72 shows a Nathan M-3 R1 (horn G), and two photos dated 11-73 and 3-76 show a Nathan M-3 R2,4 (horn H).
